Common nuisance species Wild animals that can cause problems in homes, gardens or yards include armadillos, skunks, boars, foxes, squirrels, snakes, rats, groundhogs, beavers, opossums, raccoons, bats, moles, deer, mice, coyotes, bears, ravens, seagulls, woodpeckers and pigeons.

This is a rabies-vector species and Connecticut regulations require that, if live-trapped, it cannot be relocated and released; it must be euthanized. The only exception is that the animal may be released on the property from which it was trapped. In Connecticut, there is a legal hunting season for this species.

The animal may be damaging property such as buildings, crops, pets, livestock, gardens, or public parks. Wildlife may threaten human health or safety by spreading diseases; through direct attacks; or accidentally, because of collisions with cars, airplanes, or trains.

Transport and release of opossums is illegal in most states and is not recommended because survival of released animals is often severely reduced and can result in the creation of new problems near the release locations. Opossums are not particularly wary and are relatively easy to live trap.
